AWAKE TIPS

Beryl intensified into a fearsome Category 4 hurricane on Monday and loomed large, poised to slam into the Islands of the eastern Caribbean with devastating force.
Forecasters predict Beryl will maintain its status as an "exceptionally perilous major hurricane" with its powerful core intact. While some weakening is anticipated in the central Caribbean by midweek, Beryl is still expected to retain hurricane strength.
"Areas in the Windward Islands directly in Beryl's path could experience potentially catastrophic wind damage," warned National Hurricane Center specialist Blake.
This storm rapidly gained strength, reaching tropical storm status on Friday before exploding into a major hurricane by Sunday. As it barreled towards the Caribbean, Beryl's winds surged to a menacing 130 mph, a staggering increase of 95 mph in a mere 42.5 hours.
